Jumblatt Calls for National Dialogue on Hezbollah’s Disarmament Amid Regional Concerns

Beirut:Former Progressive Socialist Party leader Walid Jumblatt has called for an inclusive national dialogue focusing on the principle of exclusive state control over weapons in Lebanon. He warned that the nation is facing increasing threats due to Israeli expansion and changing regional dynamics.

According to National news agency - Lebanon, Jumblatt highlighted in an interview with Hadley Gamble, aired on Sky News Arabia and published by The National, that Israel is taking advantage of declining US influence to expand its territorial control. He expressed concern over the ongoing Israeli occupation of South Lebanon and criticized the unsuccessful negotiations aimed at securing a withdrawal.

Jumblatt emphasized the necessity of Hezbollah's disarmament through dialogue involving all Lebanese parties, as well as cooperation from Iran and Israel, to avoid approaches that could lead to civil conflict. He recognized Hezbollah's influence and noted Iran's significant role in shaping its policies.

Addressing the situation in Syria, Jumblatt criticized Druze factions for cooperating with Israel and urged them to maintain Syrian national unity. He rejected sectarian partition and stressed that coexistence is vital for Lebanon's future.

Jumblatt also questioned the regional policies of Washington, warned of further Israeli military escalation, and called for renewed diplomatic efforts. He concluded that dialogue remains the only viable path forward for Lebanon, despite the increasingly concerning regional outlook.
