National Tree Week Promotes Environmental Conservation in Bahrain

Manama:Wael bin Nasser Al Mubarak, Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, emphasized the ministry's dedication to advancing initiatives that promote tree planting and community involvement in support of Bahrain's environmental objectives. This commitment aligns with the comprehensive development goals under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

According to Bahrain News Agency, Minister Al Mubarak praised Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa for her role in supporting national efforts through the National Initiative for Agricultural Development (NIAD). NIAD plays a crucial role in enhancing partnerships among public and private sectors and civil society organizations to further agricultural development and environmental goals.

The minister highlighted the participation of the Crown Prince and Prime Minister in this year's National Tree Week, underscoring the importance of fostering a culture of tree planting and raising environmental awareness. National Tree Week, held from October 26 to 31, features tree-planting initiatives across Bahrain's governorates, involving various sectors and organizations.

Minister Al Mubarak also acknowledged the efforts of His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa in overseeing afforestation projects and the Bahrain Mangrove Initiative, which contribute to conservation efforts and natural resource protection. He noted that expanding green spaces requires coordinated efforts and that these initiatives enhance social responsibility and environmental awareness.

The activities include planting trees in parks, schools, healthcare centers, and housing projects, with broad participation from educational institutions, sports clubs, and the community. The minister emphasized that these efforts are in line with the Kingdom's afforestation plan, aiming to double Bahrain's tree count and quadruple mangrove numbers by 2035, supporting biodiversity and carbon neutrality goals by 2060.
