Beirut: President of the Republic, Joseph Aoun, on Tuesday emphasized that political and security stability is crucial for Lebanon's economic revival. He noted ongoing efforts to strengthen this stability alongside current reforms.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Aoun highlighted the significance of stability in economic recovery, mentioning that both enacted reforms and forthcoming legislation adopted by Parliament, along with decisions made by the Cabinet, are integral components of a comprehensive roadmap for recovery.
The president expressed optimism about Lebanon's future, referencing an increase in tourism, the return of international conferences to Beirut, and a surge in visitors from Arab countries, particularly from the Gulf region, as signs of renewed confidence. He also commended the efforts of Lebanese businesspeople, both domestically and in the diaspora, for their role in stimulating the economy.
The President's remarks were made during a meeting with a delegation from the Fourth Diaspora Economic Conference, scheduled to begin Friday at the Phoenicia Hotel with over 400 participants from 37 countries. Conference President Raouf Abou Zaki noted that the return of stability has encouraged robust diaspora participation, and the event aims to nurture partnerships that support job creation and economic growth.
In separate discussions, President Aoun talked about recovery strategies with former Economic and Social Council president Roger Nasnas. He also met with Marwan Sehnaoui, head of the Sovereign Order of Malta in Lebanon, who provided updates on aid initiatives for Jezzine and southern Lebanon.
Additionally, the president met with Sheikh Mohammad Ahmad Al-Awad, Mufti of the Lebanese communities in Africa. Al-Awad conveyed diaspora concerns, including requests for stronger diplomatic representation, improved consular services, legal protection, and equitable handling of expatriate bank deposits. He called for initiatives to rebuild trust and encourage diaspora investment through legal guarantees.
Al-Awad stressed the diaspora's ongoing support for the Lebanese state and its institutions.
