EU-GCC Summit Calls for Immediate Ceasefire and Political Solutions Across Multiple Conflict Zones

BRUSSELS: The EU-GCC Summit has issued a strong call for an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, Lebanon, and other conflict areas, advocating for peaceful resolutions and emphasizing the importance of adhering to international laws and resolutions. According to Kuwait News Agency, the summit, which convened in Brussels, brought together leaders from the European Union and the Gulf Cooperation Council. They issued a detailed communique that addressed various regional conflicts and highlighted the urgent need for humanitarian aid and respect for human rights. The leaders urged all parties involved in the conflicts across the Middle East to adopt restraint and cease hostilities, particularly emphasizing the situation in Gaza and Lebanon. The communique also reiterated support for the two-state solution as a path to peace between Israel and Palestine and called for the establishment of a Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders. This approach aligns with international law and previous Un ited Nations resolutions, including the Arab Peace Initiative. In addition to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the summit's communique touched on the tensions in Lebanon, condemning the escalation of violence and expressing support for Lebanese sovereignty and stability as outlined in UN Security Council Resolution 1701 and the Taif Agreement. Regarding Syria, the summit supported efforts to preserve the country's unity and territorial integrity, consistent with UN Security Council Resolution 2254. The situation in Sudan was highlighted as particularly concerning, with calls for a return t o civil governance and cessation of military conflicts that could affect neighboring countries. The summit also addressed non-regional issues like the conflict in Ukraine, reaffirming support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders. Furthermore, the leaders expressed their concerns about Iran's regional activities, urging the country to respect the sovereignty of other nations, cease military provocations, and engage constructively in diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions, particularly concerning its nuclear program.
