IICO Invests Over $11 Million in Aid for Palestinians Since October

KUWAIT CITY: International Islamic Charity Organization (IICO) has invested more than USD 11 million in aid to support over two million Palestinians since October 2023, the organization announced on Wednesday. The extensive support forms part of Kuwait's ongoing commitment to the Palestinian cause, covering 86 different relief projects in collaboration with multiple regional partners. According to Kuwait News Agency, IICO Chief Dr. Abdullah Al-Matouq detailed the multifaceted approach to the aid provided during a press conference. The initiatives include the establishment and reconstruction of refugee centers, provision of drinkable water, medical services, and educational support. Dr. Al-Matouq emphasized the comprehensive nature of the aid, which included deploying air bridges, ships, and trucks to deliver critical supplies to Gaza. The relief efforts also extended to the educational sector, where IICO set up five tents that currently accommodate 1,200 students, providing both employment for teachers and education for students. An online learning project was also initiated, benefiting around 500 college students. Furthermore, IICO distributed essential goods including food packages, ready meals, winter clothing, and coupons to meet immediate needs. Dr. Al-Matouq also highlighted initiatives aimed at enhancing local community capabilities in agriculture and construction, and strengthening food security. A significant aspect of IICO's strategy has involved international collaboration. Dr. Al-Matouq noted a conference organized in coordination with the United Nations humanitarian office aimed at enhancing humanitarian intervention and early recovery efforts in the Gaza Strip. The conference saw participation from 147 organizations, pledging to undertake projects worth over USD two billion to ameliorate the humanitarian situation in Gaza. Dr. Al-Matouq expressed gratitude towards the donors who have supported IICO's projects over the past year, reaffirming the organization's commitment to continuing its suppor t for the people of Gaza.
