AMMAN: In a significant announcement, the Minister of Government Communication, Mohammad Momani, detailed that the Jordanian Cabinet will conduct its meetings monthly across various governorates to enhance the oversight of developmental projects and facilitate regional governance. According to Jordan News Agency, Minister Momani, who also serves as the government spokesperson, revealed these plans during a press conference at the Karak Youth Directorate. He explained that this initiative is part of a broader effort by the government to "change the way the government works in the field," aiming to make localized governance a hallmark of its operations. The decision to decentralize Cabinet meetings is intended to allow direct interaction with local elected officials and stakeholders, thereby fostering a more inclusive governance model. During the recent Cabinet meeting in Karak, which was split into two segments, governmental officials met with local leaders including mayors, provincial council members, MPs, senators, and representatives from the Women's Union and the Chamber of Industry and Commerce. The ministers presented the government's developmental vision for Karak, discussed ongoing projects, their timelines, and financial outlays through detailed visual presentations. Furthermore, the second part of the meeting focused on the Cabinet's resolutions which included significant economic measures such as the establishment of a development zone for agricultural industries in Karak. The Cabinet approved incentives like reduced electricity rates for small and medium-sized enterprises, integration into national employment schemes, and substantial subsidies for social security and salaries for Jordanians working in this new zone. The new practice of holding Cabinet meetings in governorates will also feature post-meeting press conferences to communicate decisions and proceedings to the public, enhancing transparency and accountability in governmental processes.
