Kuwait Calls for Urgent Reform of UN System Amid Global Challenges

Kuwait city: Kuwait's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Tareq Al-Banai, has underscored the urgent need for reform within the UN system to effectively address the growing global challenges. He emphasized the importance of adapting to contemporary developments during a statement marking United Nations Day on October 24. According to Kuwait News Agency, Ambassador Al-Banai highlighted the significant achievements of the UN in promoting peace, security, and international cooperation. He reiterated Kuwait's commitment to enhancing the efficiency and operational structures of the UN to ensure broader and more equitable participation among its member states. Al-Banai stressed the necessity for greater transparency in decision-making processes and a more rapid response to global crises. He called for empowering developing nations by granting them a more substantial role in shaping international decisions. Al-Banai reaffirmed the need to adhere to the principles and objectives of the UN Cha rter in maintaining international peace and security. He also reiterated Kuwait's unwavering support for the UN's initiatives in addressing global and regional challenges, particularly the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 goals. Ambassador Al-Banai emphasized Kuwait's dedication to advancing international peace and security. He commended the UN's ongoing efforts to strengthen international cooperation, resolve conflicts through peaceful means, and support humanitarian activities aimed at alleviating the suffering of vulnerable populations worldwide. He highlighted Kuwait's active contributions to promoting international dialogue, stability, and sustainable development for future generations. Al-Banai praised the longstanding cooperative relationship between Kuwait and the UN, which has spanned over 60 years. He acknowledged the efforts of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in advancing the organization's goals and enhancing global cooperation. He also renewed Kuwait's full support for U N personnel, particularly those who have lost their lives in humanitarian service, acknowledging them as the cornerstone of multilateral international efforts.
