Kuwait Reaffirms Commitment to UN Peace and Security Agenda

KUWAIT CITY: Kuwait's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdullah Al-Yahya, emphasized the nation's active role in supporting the United Nations' agenda for international peace and security during a UN Day celebration. Al-Yahya highlighted Kuwait's contributions and renewed commitment to the UN's efforts in safeguarding global peace as the nation observed UN Day, celebrated annually on October 24. According to Kuwait News Agency, Al-Yahya made these remarks at an event hosted by the UN mission in Kuwait. The celebration was attended by Deputy Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, senior diplomats, and representatives from the UN mission and allied countries. Al-Yahya stated that UN Day serves as a platform for the international community to reaffirm its dedication to the UN Charter's principles and objectives, aimed at achieving peace and security. Since joining the UN in 1963, Kuwait has supported various UN-led humanitarian and developmental initiatives. The minister highlighted Kuwait's effor ts to provide protection for civilians in conflict zones and its commitment to addressing instability through peaceful dialogue. Al-Yahya credited Kuwait's leadership under His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah for the nation's dedication to global peace and security. Al-Yahya acknowledged the challenges faced by the UN in resolving conflicts and restoring stability, emphasizing the organization's crucial role in today's complex global landscape. He recalled the UN's vital assistance in restoring Kuwait's sovereignty in 1991 as a testament to its significant contributions to international peace and security. United Nations Resident Coordinator to Kuwait, Ghada Hatim El-Tahir, highlighted Kuwait's partnership with the UN in achieving Sustainable Development Goals and promoting peace and collective action worldwide. El-Tahir noted the strong collaboration between UN agencies and Kuwait in areas such as economic di versification, youth empowerment, health promotion, education, and human rights. El-Tahir also mentioned that the 2024 global peace index ranked Kuwait first among Middle East and North Africa (MENA) countries and 25th globally, underscoring the nation's leadership in peacebuilding efforts.
