Cairo: Minister of Labor Dr. Mohammad Haidar began his official visit to the Arab Republic of Egypt with a meeting with the Secretary-General of the Arab League Nabil Fahmy, at the League's headquarters in Cairo.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Minister Haidar was accompanied by his adviser Firas Zoaiter and Lebanon's Charg© d'Affaires at the Embassy in Cairo, Consul Farah Al-Siblini. The meeting reportedly addressed developments in Lebanon and the region, the Arab role required to confront current challenges, as well as ways to strengthen cooperation between Lebanon and the Arab League.
During the meeting, Minister Haidar conveyed to the Secretary-General the greetings and congratulations of House Speaker Nabih Berri, as well as those of Prime Minister Nawaf Salam on the occasion of his assumption of office. Haidar stressed that "Lebanon is counting on a more effective Arab role in addressing the challenges it is facing," emphasizing the importance of politically embracing Lebanon, strengthening Arab support to halt the ongoing Israeli attacks, supporting reconstruction efforts, and preserving Lebanon's stability as a fundamental pillar of regional stability.
The Minister also reviewed the findings of his recent field tour in southern Lebanon, highlighting the scale of destruction inflicted on productive and economic institutions, as well as the labour sector, as a result of the Israeli attacks. He noted that the Ministry of Labour has prepared a national report documenting the damage sustained by institutions and workers, in cooperation with the Arab Labor Organization, with the aim of adopting it as an Arab reference document at regional and international forums.
Minister Haidar further underscored "the importance of activating joint Arab action at this stage and strengthening coordination between the Arab League and its member states to address the challenges facing the region." He affirmed that "the unity of the Arab position remains the primary gateway to safeguarding Arab national security and preserving the stability of its states."
For his part, the Secretary-General expressed his thanks and appreciation for Speaker Nabih Berri's congratulatory message, as well as for Prime Minister Nawaf Salam's congratulations. The meeting concluded with an emphasis on maintaining coordination between the Ministry of Labour and the General Secretariat of the Arab League.
