Lebanon Files Complaint to UN Security Council Accusing Israel of Disrupting Education

BEIRUT: Lebanon has officially filed a complaint against Israel with the United Nations Security Council, alleging severe disruptions to its educational sector due to what it describes as ongoing Israeli aggression. According to Jordan News Agency, the Lebanese government's complaint, submitted on Monday, details the detrimental impacts of Israeli actions on education in Lebanon. The document includes statistics on the displacement of students and teachers from both public and private sectors across all levels of education. It also highlights the conversion of numerous educational institutions into shelters for displaced individuals throughout various regions of Lebanon. The complaint emphasizes the urgency of the situation, with Lebanon calling on the Security Council members to take swift and effective actions to halt the Israeli aggression. Lebanon asserts that the conflict has stripped nearly 1.4 million students of their fundamental right to education. Furthermore, the Lebanese government is appealing to the international community to intervene immediately to stop the aggression and safeguard educational rights, which it considers crucial for the country's stable and secure future and for fostering a culture of development and peace. In related developments, violence escalated with two individuals reported killed in an Israeli airstrike on Monday evening in the southern Lebanese town of Qanaret. Additional reports from a Lebanese security source indicated ongoing military activities, including Israeli artillery shelling and operations involving heavy machine guns in the city of Khiyam, the town of Kafr Kila, and the Khiyam plain.
