Global Council for Tolerance and Peace Denounces Israel’s Move to Seize UNRWA Headquarters in Jerusalem

JERUSALEM: The Global Council for Tolerance and Peace has issued a strong condemnation following Israel's announcement that it will confiscate the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) headquarters in East Jerusalem, with plans to transform it into a settlement site. According to Emirates News Agency, Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Jarwan, President of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace, articulated the Council's staunch opposition to Israel's decision, emphasizing the critical nature of maintaining humanitarian sites as neutral grounds, especially in conflict zones. Al Jarwan criticized the decision, highlighting it as a move that could jeopardize the safety of aid workers and disrupt the services provided to Palestinian refugees. Al Jarwan expressed grave concerns over the potential implications of such actions on the historical and legal statuses of the Occupied Palestinian Territory. He underscored the Council's commitment to defending international laws and conventions th at protect humanitarian operations and structures in conflict-affected areas. In his statement, Al Jarwan also lauded the efforts of UNRWA in delivering essential services and support to Palestinian refugees under challenging conditions. He called on the global community to strengthen their engagement and support for initiatives aimed at progressing the peace process in the Middle East and addressing actions that undermine the viability of a two-state solution.
