Moroccan Monarch Calls on Algerian President to Engage in Sincere Dialogue

Rabat: King Mohammed VI of Morocco expressed his satisfaction on Friday with the UN Security Council resolution on Morocco's autonomy plan for the Western Sahara. In a statement, the Moroccan monarch said, "The United Nations has adopted the autonomy initiative for the Sahara as the optimal solution to the conflict." King Mohammed VI added, "We thank the US President for his efforts to resolve the conflict concerning the Western Sahara."

According to National news agency - Lebanon, the king continued: "I call on the Algerian president to engage in sincere dialogue to build new relations." He concluded his remarks by praising "all efforts supporting the territorial integrity of Morocco."

On Friday, the UN Security Council, at the initiative of the United States, voted in favor of supporting Morocco's autonomy plan for Western Sahara, deeming it the "most realistic" solution for the territory. The United Nations considers Western Sahara to be among the "non-self-governing territories" in the absence of a final settlement.
