Moscow: In a significant development aimed at strengthening bilateral relations, the Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Belarus are set to expand their partnership across various sectors including economy, trade, culture, education, and investments. This was highlighted during the recent visit of Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko to Oman.
According to Oman News Agency, Hamoud Salim Al Tuwaih, Oman’s Ambassador to the Russian Federation and non-resident Ambassador to Belarus, emphasized the importance of the visit in enhancing the bilateral cooperation that has been built over the years. Al Tuwaih noted that the visit “will pave the way for realizing the aspirations of the two countries’ peoples,” building on the momentum of previous agreements and ongoing diplomatic engagements.
The two nations have a history of robust agreements aimed at fostering economic and cultural ties. These include the Agreement on the Promotion and Protection of Investment and the Agreement on Economic and Commercial C
ooperation. More recent developments include an air transport agreement signed in July 2023 and various memoranda of understanding in fields ranging from political consultations to education and culture.
Al Tuwaih also highlighted the strong foundation of bilateral relations established since July 23, 1992, and the reciprocal high-level visits that have occurred, including a state visit by the President of Belarus to Oman in April 2007. The ongoing political and parliamentary exchanges, as well as regular rounds of political consultations, have significantly contributed to the deepening of ties.
Expanding bilateral cooperation now covers education and research through student and researcher exchanges, and joint cultural events aimed at boosting the tourism sector. In the realm of cultural cooperation, there is ongoing collaboration between the Omani National Museum and Belarusian museums, with plans to further increase these interactions.
Al Tuwaih further disclosed the establishment of a Centre for Arabic
Language and Culture at Minsk State University, which not only promotes cultural exchange but also facilitates educational opportunities for Belarusian students at Sultan Qaboos University.
This comprehensive engagement across multiple sectors illustrates the commitment of Oman and Belarus to a long-term partnership that spans beyond mere diplomatic relations, encompassing economic, educational, and cultural dimensions that benefit both nations.
