The Suez Canal Authority (SCA) inked on Tuesday 3/1/2023 a memorandum of understanding with the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) to accelerate the authority’s efforts to turn the Suez Canal into a green one in line with Egypt Vision 2030.
In this regard, SCA Chairman Osama Rabie said the authority is keen on cooperating with all partners, who are specialized in environmental sustainability and decarbonization, noting that the canal has already taken steps toward green and digital transformation.
Rabie pointed out that the new Suez Canal contributed to decreasing carbon emissions by an average of 53 million tons of carbon dioxide equivalent.
Meanwhile, Vice President of Global Sustainability at ABS Georgios Plevrakis expressed his pride in cooperating with the Suez Canal to promote efficient and sustainable trade and address related-environmental challenges.
