Washington: US President Donald Trump has affirmed that a ceasefire with Iran is still in place, even after a recent exchange of fire between Iran and US naval destroyers in the strategically significant Strait of Hormuz. Both nations have accused each other of initiating the confrontation.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the United States has accused Iran of launching missiles, deploying drones, and sending small boats to engage with three US warships, describing the incident as an "unprovoked attack." President Trump remarked that Iran "trifled with us today," underscoring the tension between the two countries.
In response, Iran's top military command accused the United States of targeting an Iranian oil tanker and another vessel as they approached the Strait of Hormuz. Iran also claimed that the US carried out "aerial attacks" on multiple coastal areas. This incident follows closely on the heels of Iran's foreign ministry announcing its consideration of a US proposal aimed at ending the ongoing conflict.
