UK Government Raises Alarm Over Chinese Military Activities Near Taiwan

LONDON: The British Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has voiced serious concerns regarding the recent Chinese military drills conducted near Taiwan, emphasizing the potential risks these activities pose to regional stability. According to Kuwait News Agency, an FCDO spokesperson articulated the UK's apprehension about the military maneuvers, stating, "we are concerned by China's military exercises around Taiwan, which increase tensions and risk dangerous escalation in the Taiwan Strait." The spokesperson further reiterated the UK's commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the region, which they deemed crucial for global prosperity. The statement from the FCDO also highlighted the UK's stance on the Taiwan issue, advocating for a peaceful resolution through dialogue. "We consider the Taiwan issue one to be settled by people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait through constructive dialogue, without the threat or use of force or coercion," the spokesperson said, adding that the UK does not support any unilateral actions that could alter the current state of affairs. The FCDO called for all parties involved to exercise restraint and to avoid any further activities that could destabilize the situation.
