Deir el balah: The UN Human Rights Chief, Volker Trk, has issued a comment concerning the Israeli military operations in Deir El Balah, located in the Gaza Strip. Trk expressed grave concerns regarding the recent displacement orders and subsequent intensive military actions undertaken by Israel in the area.
According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Trk highlighted the exacerbating humanitarian crisis faced by Palestinians in the region. The recent Israeli airstrikes and ground operations have significantly increased the risk of civilian casualties and the destruction of essential civilian infrastructure. The area affected is heavily populated with civilians and houses several humanitarian organizations, including medical clinics, shelters, and community kitchens, all of which are critical to the survival of the local population.
Trk also pointed out that the ongoing military actions have resulted in the destruction of homes and forced thousands of residents to flee. The displaced are left with no option but to relocate to increasingly crowded areas within Gaza, complicating the delivery of humanitarian aid. Even these areas, Trk noted, are not immune to attacks. He reminded Israel of its obligations under international law, stating that the permanent displacement of people living under occupation constitutes unlawful transfer and could be considered a war crime, potentially escalating to a crime against humanity.
Furthermore, Trk urged Israel, as the occupying power, to ensure the provision of food, medical, and other essential supplies to the population. He called for the unconditional entry and distribution of humanitarian aid to those in need and demanded an immediate halt to military operations, emphasizing the necessity of ending the ongoing violations of international law. His statement reflects a growing international demand for an end to the military actions and a focus on humanitarian relief efforts.
