Beirut: The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) on Wednesday welcomed the announcement of a cessation of hostilities and the renewed commitment to Security Council Resolution 1701, calling it a crucial step toward lasting peace in the region. In a press statement, UNIFIL expressed its readiness to cooperate with all relevant partners to ensure the cessation of hostilities is effectively implemented. The peacekeeping force, which includes personnel from 48 countries, emphasized its continued dedication to performing its mandated tasks while adjusting operations to accommodate the new circumstances. According to National News Agency - Lebanon, UNIFIL also stressed the severe toll the conflict has taken on civilians on both sides of the Blue Line. The statement urged all parties to fully adhere to the terms of Resolution 1701, in both its letter and spirit, to prevent further suffering and pave the way for peace. As peacekeepers remain on the ground, UNIFIL reaffirmed its commitment to supporting L ebanon and Israel during this new phase of the conflict, standing ready to assist in the full implementation of the resolution.
