Washington imposes sanctions on a famous Lebanese economist for his financial links with “Hezbollah”

Baghdad, The US Treasury Department announced today, Tuesday, the imposition of sanctions on the Lebanese economist Hassan Muqalled, his two sons, and the exchange company he owns, due to financial links with the Lebanese “Hezbollah”.

The US Treasury indicated that Muqalled “was a financial advisor to Hezbollah, and conducted financial transactions on its behalf that earned hundreds of thousands of dollars.”

“Today, the Treasury Department is taking action against a corrupt money exchange, whose financial engineering is actively supporting and empowering Hezbollah and its interests at the expense of the Lebanese people and economy,” said Undersecretary of the Treasury for Terrorism Brian Nelson.

In a statement from the treasury, it was stated that the “CTEX” company, which owns Muqallad’s business, is licensed by the Central Bank of Lebanon, and punished Muqalled’s two sons, under the pretext that they were involved in the same financial transactions.

Muqalled appears regularly on Lebanese TV channels as a financial expert and has more than 50,000 followers on Twitter, which makes him one of the rare figures that Washington imposes sanctions on for his financial relations with Hezbollah.
