Egypt’s agricultural exports hit 6.5 mln tons for 1st time ever

Egypt’s agricultural exports reached nearly 6.5 million tons in 2022 for the first time ever at a total value of about 3.3 billion dollars, said Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation El Sayed El Quseir.

 

The Minister had received a report from Head of the Central Administration of Plant Quarantine (CAPQ) ِAhmed el Attar on the country’s agricultural exports during the period from January 1, 2022 and until December 31, 2022.

 

The country’s top agricultural exports were citruses, potatoes, fresh onions, grapes, fresh tomatoes, sweet potatoes, strawberries, guava, garlic, mango, watermelon, and pomegranates, according to the report.

Exports of medical industries sector up to $883m in 11 months

Majed George, head of the Egyptian Exporting Council of Medical industries (ECMI), said the exports of medicine, cosmetics and medical supplies increased to $883 million in the first 11 months of 2022, compared with one year earlier.

 

The exports of the sector increased by 45% in the first 11 months of 2022, registering $883 against $610 million in the same period in 2021, according to a statement issued by the council Saturday 07/01/2023.

 

The exports of cosmetics remarkably jumped in the first 11 months of 2022, reaching $558 million; an increase of 208%, while medicine exports hit $226 million in the relevant period, added the statement.

Minister: Productive families’ projects ‘crucial’ in serving national economy

Productive families’ projects play an instrumental role in serving the national economy, said Public Business Sector Minister Mahmoud Essmat.

The ministry is adopting an economic empowerment policy in cooperation with the various State’s institutions, added the minister while inspecting the Arab Productive Families Exhibition, which is held under the auspices of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.

Talking about his ministry’s efforts to keep pace with digital transformation, Essmat said that several foreign trade companies, which are affiliated with the ministry, were merged under the name of “Gosor” company in order to serve producers and importers.

 

The company’s branches in Africa, Europe and Arab countries adopt the latest marketing methods to cope with reaching the goal of increasing the country’s annual exports to around dlrs 100 billion, he went on to say.

Fencer Mohamed El Sayed wins Epee World Cup U20

Egyptian fencer Mohamed El Sayed made history Friday 06/01/2023 by snatching the gold medal of the 2023 Epee World Cup U20, hosted by Italy’s Udine.

 

El Sayed beat Israeli fencer Yonatan Cohen 15-13 in the final to be crowned champion of one of the most difficult tournaments in the current season.

 

On Saturday, the national team will compete in the Men Epee Team competition.

Sports Minister witnesses 25th Arabian Gulf Cup opening

Sports Minister Ashraf Sobhy has praised efforts exerted to organize the 25th Arabian Gulf Cup, wishing all Arab teams good luck.

Sobhy arrived on Friday 06/01/2023 at Iraq’s Basrah International Airport to attend the opening ceremony of the event held in Basrah city, said Youth and Sport Ministry in a statement.

 

The minister, who is the president of the executive office of the Arab Youth and Sports Ministers Council, was received at the airport by his Iraqi counterpart and director of the Gulf 25 tournament and member of the Iraqi Football Association Ahmed Al-Moussawi, added the statement.

 

The minister is scheduled to meet a raft of Arab sport ministers on the sidelines of the opening ceremony.

 

The games will be played at two venues: Basra International Stadium and Al-Minaa Olympic Stadium.

EU cooperates with Egypt in migration domain through 34 projects worth 111 million euros

Head of the European Union (EU) Delegation to Egypt Christian Berger said cooperation between Egypt and the EU will be furthered in 2023, especially in the migration domain.

 

In statements to MENA on Saturday 07/01/2023, he said the Egyptian-EU cooperation protfolio in the migration domain stood at 111 million euros covering 34 projects.

 

He particularly lauded the positive implementation of a 60-million-euro migration program that aims at promoting response to migration challenges.

 

Berger said the EU has for the first time launched a border management program at 23 million euros in collaboration with Egypt.

 

He added that the second stage of this border program will be implemented with the Egyptian government at 57 million euros during the current year.

Egypt welcomes outcome of meeting between Libya’s House of Representatives, Higher State Council

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid welcomed the outcome of a meeting between the Libyan House of Representatives and Libya’s Higher Council of State, which was held on Thursday.

 

The two sides agreed to refer the draft constitutional document for endorsement, with the aim of finalizing the procedures represented in encouraging the holding of parliamentary and presidential elections.

 

In a press release, Abu Zeid praised the role of the Libyan House of Representatives and the Higher Council of State in carrying out their responsibilities.

 

The track of the Libyan Constitutional Committee, consisting of the two houses, whose rounds started in Cairo in April 2022 under the auspices of the UN, is the main track that embodies the will of the Libyan people, he added.

 

The spokesman, meanwhile, voiced hope that the two sides would complete the rest of their tasks in the upcoming period.

 

Egypt will always support the choices of the Libyan people, and the role of Libyan institutions, in a way that leads to achieving security, stability and unity in Libya, and the exit of all foreign forces, mercenaries and foreign fighters from its lands, he added.

GAH chief: Medical tourism key in health authority’s work

Head of the General Authority for Healthcare (GAH) Ahmed el Sobky said coming action plans call for promoting the file of medical tourism in order to attain development.

 

Efforts are focused on making the authority a tool for the state to increase its resources of foreign currency, added Sobky, who is also an Aide to the Health and Population Minister and the General Supervisor of the Comprehensive Health Insurance Project.

 

He said the authority seeks to achieve the state’s vision on expanding the full health insurance system application to cover all parts of the country and adopting the value-based healthcare concept which see to it that healthcare providers (including hospitals and physicians) are compensated based upon patient health outcomes.

 

GAH also acts to increase numbers of employees serving at its health facilities, he said, adding that it has an investment tool to work domestically and abroad.

Gov’t denies reports about cancellation of parts of 1st term curricula

The Cabinet Media Center has dismissed as groundless reports that parts of some school curriculums will be excluded from the first term exams in the current academic year.

 

In a statement Saturday 07/01/2023, the media center said it contacted the Education and Technical Education Ministry, which totally denied these reports, asserting that they are baseless and bare of truth.

 

The center, meanwhile, said that the ministry affirmed that all the curriculums of the first term will be part of the term exams for primary, preparatory and secondary stages students.

 

The center urged all media outlets to seek accuracy and objectivity before publishing news, advising them to contact the official bodies concerned so as to avoid sparking confusion among the students and parents.

Health Minister follows up implementation of Xmas medical security plan

Health and Population Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar on Saturday 07/01/2023 chaired a meeting at the central crisis management and emergency room at the ministry’s headquarters to follow up on the full implementation of the ministry’s medical security plan for the Xmas.

The minister checked on the readiness of medical teams at all hospitals, as well as the availability of adequate stocks of medicines and medical supplies, Spokesman for the Health and Population Ministry Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said.

 

Abdel Ghaffar also checked on the availability of adequate blood stocks at the ministry’s affiliated blood banks nationwide, reviewing also ambulance service reports over the past two days.

 

He also checked on ambulance units deployed to public areas, and near churches and places of worship, the spokesman pointed out, noting that the ministry’s plan offers about 3,621 road ambulance units, along with 12 river boat ambulance units.

 

The room is operating around the clock to ensure the medical security plan is properly executed and necessary technical support is provided at all medical facilities, the spokesman said.

 

After the meeting, the minister inspected the central room for preventive services to check on the application of a ministerial disease monitoring program, the spokesman added.
