S. Korea and US Commence Extensive Air Drill with Australian Participation

Seoul: South Korea and the United States have initiated a significant 12-day air exercise named Freedom Flag, featuring participation from the Royal Australian Air Force. The exercise, which began earlier this week, aims to enhance preparedness against potential threats from North Korea, as reported by Yonhap News Agency. According to Kuwait News Agency, the drill involves approximately 110 aircraft, including South Korea's F-35A stealth fighters and F-15Ks, alongside US F-35Bs, F-16s, and MQ-9 drones. The Royal Australian Air Force contributes with a KC-30A multi-role tanker transport aircraft. The exercise marks a milestone with the first joint flights between fighter jets and unmanned aerial vehicles, designed to simulate actual combat scenarios reflective of recent global conflicts, such as the war in Ukraine. An additional highlight of the exercise is the inaugural aerial refueling drills involving the Australian KC-30A tanker and a South Korean F-35A fighter. This element of the drill underscores the growing cooperation among the participating nations in enhancing defense capabilities and interoperability.
