Defense Minister Discusses Security with Former President, Meets UNTSO Chief

Beirut: Minister of National Defense, Major General Michel Menassa, held discussions with former President Michel Sleiman at his office in Yarzeh. The meeting focused on the general situation in Lebanon, especially the security developments along the Lebanese border, and the role of the Lebanese Army in maintaining internal stability and addressing various challenges.

According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Major General Menassa also met with Major General Patrick Gauchat, the Chief of the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO) in Lebanon, who was accompanied by Lieutenant Colonel Dieter Bachmann, the Head of UNTSO's Liaison Office in Beirut. Their discussion centered on UNTSO's mission and its role in monitoring the armistice line, as well as the ongoing coordination between UNTSO and the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

The need to extend UNIFIL's mandate in the upcoming August was also highlighted during the talks. Additionally, Major General Menassa received former MP Amal Abou Zeid and retired Brigadier General George Nader to further discuss the general situation in Lebanon.
