Egypt’s Amr Hamouda named vice chairman of IOC Tsunami


Higher Education and Scientific Research Minister Ayman Ashour announced Tuesday that President of the National Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries (NIOF) Amr Zakaria Hamouda had been named vice-chairman of UNESCO’s International Tsunami Early Warning Committee (IOC Tsunami).

This is the first time an African or Arab expert has held this position, the minister said in a statement.

Hamouda was elected unanimously by the member states from the Mediterranean and the North Atlantic region.
