Gov’t closely monitors releasing goods stuck at ports – PM

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli said Sunday the government is closely monitoring the final situation of goods stuck at the country’s ports, and ways to accelerate clearance procedures.

The premier was meeting with Governor of the Central Bank of Egypt Hassan Abdalla, Minister of Finance Mohamed Maait, and Minister of Trade and Industry Ahmed Samir, among other senior officials to follow up on the developments of applying the Advanced Cargo Information (ACI) system.

The meeting reviewed the current situation of shipments’ pre-registration system, the incoming ACI-certified goods, as well as performance indicators in various seaports and the Cairo International Airport.

Madbouli praised the system’s mechanisms and its efforts to facilitate and accelerate customs release operations in Egypt’s various ports.

He ordered a periodic follow-up by the authorities concerned with activating the system.
