The Embassy of Japan in Libya announced yesterday, Monday, the allocation of an additional 1.6 million dollars to help those affected in the areas of eastern Libya that were struck by Hurricane Daniel on September 10, 2023, through UNICEF Libya.

This came during a meeting between the Japanese Ambassador, “Shimura Izuru,” with the representative of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Libya, “Michel Servadi.”

The embassy explained that the aid included providing food supplies, critical health requirements (water, sanitation, and sterilization), childhood protection, emergency needs, and child protection services in the affected areas.

He added that with this new commitment, Japan’s total contribution to the flood-affected areas in eastern Libya, provided through UNICEF, has reached 2.6 million US dollars. This is thanks to the long-standing partnership with UNICEF.

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry had one-on-one talks Tuesday with his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amir-Abdollahian on the sidelines of meetings of the UN Human Rights Council (HRC) in Geneva.

The talks focused on bilateral relations, said spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Abu Zeid.

The top diplomats also discussed the war in Gaza and the threat of the conflict spreading to the region, Abu Zeid added.
