TWO MODERATE EARTHQUAKES HIT SYRIA THIS EVENING

Two earthquakes of moderate intensity struck this evening, 30 km northwest of the city of Homs.

The Syrian National Seismological Center said in a statement that “the stations of the national seismic monitoring network recorded a first earthquake of 4.3 degrees on the Richter scale and a depth of 10 km at 16:32 local time near the Syrian-Lebanese border, 30 km northwest of the city of Homs.”

The center added: “The residents of the governorates of Homs, Hama, Tartous, and Lattakia felt the tremor.”

It continued: “The network’s stations also recorded a second earthquake measuring 4.2 degrees on the Richter scale and a depth of 2 km at 17:27 local time at the Syrian-Lebanese border, 39 km west of the city of Homs.”

It is to note that an earthquake measuring 4.5 degrees on the Richter scale was recorded on the evening of the 12th of this month, 43 km northwest of the city of Hama.
