Saqqara antiquities: Tombs discovered at rocky edge date back to Greek age, 2nd dynasty


Director of the Saqqara Antiquities Area Mohamed Youssef said the new archaeological discovery in the area located at the rocky edge in Saqqara is dating back to different eras.

The discovery includes a rocky tomb that is dating back to the Romanian age and another small cemetery from the Second Dynasty age, he added in televised remarks on Saturday 06/01/2024.

Archaeological excavations in the area are made by a joint Egyptian-Japanese mission in the area, according to him.

The newly-discovered tombs contain some artifacts and statues that represent the Egyptian artistic work in the Greek-Romanian era, he said, adding they also include some buildings that are set up above one of the tombs and some wooden coffins.

Pope Tawadros II to lead Christmas mass at Nativity of Christ Cathedral in NAC


Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria and Patriarch of St. Mark Diocese leads on Saturday 06/01/2024 the Christmas mass at the Cathedral of the Nativity of Christ in the New Administrative Capital with the participation of a number of bishops, priests and monks.

Senior state officials, ministers and governors will also attend the mass along with a number of diplomats, MPs, senators and public figures.

The mass will be broadcasted live on television.

The Cathedral of the Nativity of Christ is a Coptic Orthodox cathedral in the NAC, Egypt, some 45 km east of Cairo. It was commissioned by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and inaugurated on 6 January 2019 by him and Pope Tawadros. It is the largest church in the Middle East, and the largest Oriental Orthodox church in the world by area.

Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria and Patriarch of the holy See of Saint Mark Diocese Saturday 06/01/2024 sent a papal message to Copts in the country and expatriate Coptic Egyptians on the occasion of the Christmas.

The message was translated into 20 different languages.

Pope Tawadros II will lead the Christmas mass for Egyptian Coptic Christians in the Cathedral of the Nativity of Christ in the New Administrative Capital.

Health Minister lauds parl’t’s approval to cover GARD treatment by emergency fund


The House of Representatives’ approval to cover treatment of genetic and rare diseases (GARD) by the medical emergency fund is a historic step that proves President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s infinite health support for citizens, Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar said.

The establishment of a fund for medical emergency and genetic and rare diseases aims to contribute to covering treatment costs of such diseases to alleviate financial burdens on citizens, Spokesman for the Health Ministry Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said on Saturday 06/01/2024.

Abdel Ghaffar stressed that the state is keen to provide better health services and prevent diseases, citing the significant presidential health initiatives to offer good healthcare for all citizens nationwide.

Palestinian injured, holders of foreign, Egyptian passports cross Rafah into Egypt


Injured Palestinians and holders of foreign and Egyptian passports crossed Rafah land port into Egypt, an official source in the land crossing said on Saturday 06/01/2024.

The source added – in a press statement Saturday – 26 wounded, 20 companions, and 100 holders of foreign passports, in addition to 129 holders of Egyptian passports, crossed into Egypt.

The source said ambulances belonging to the North Sinai Ambulance were prepared to receive the wounded and their Palestinian companions on the Egyptian side of Rafah, and transported them to hospitals for treatment.

National News Agency correspondent in Tyre reported this morning that Israeli enemy reconnaissance drones attacked shortly after midnight yesterday an empty house in the town of Aita al-Shaab, causing its destruction and severe damages to a number of cars in the vicinity and to the water and electricity networks in the area.

This was followed by a second raid on the outskirts of the town, NNA correspondent added.

Later after midnight, the enemy artillery also shelled the outskirts of Naqoura and Mount Labouneh.

Also, Israeli reconnaissance drones circled throughout last night and until this morning over the villages of the western and central sectors, all the way to the outskirts of the city of Tyre, NNA correspondent reported, adding that the enemy continued to fire flare bombs over the border villages adjacent to the Blue Line.

The villages of the central sector in Maroun al-Ras and the city of Bint Jbeil witnessed a low-altitude flight of Israeli military warplanes over the southern towns.

Minister Supply and Internal Trade Ali Moselhi Saturday 06/01/2024 inaugurated the first phase of the trade, administrative and logistics zone project in Beheira governorate at total investments of 4.5 billion pounds.

The trade zone is built on an area of 96 feddans, the minister said on the sidelines of the inauguration, adding that the first phase represents 48.7 percent of the project and comprises trade, administrative and logistic projects.

The opening of the logistic zone was attended by Local Development Minister Hisham Amna, Chairman of the Internal Trade Development Agency (ITDA) and Deputy Beheira Governor Nihal Balba.

The logistic zone comprises a shopping mall, expos, restaurants and a fuel station, Minister Moselhi said.

He added that it comes in line with directives of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to expand the establishment of trade zones in different governorates to cut down the transportation fees, which represent nearly 10-15 percent of total price of the commodities.

ile, instructed that residents of Beheira governorate will be given a top priority to be hired by the projects of the trade and logistic zone.

Minister: Egypt was not, will not be late in fulfilling internal, external obligations


Minister of Finance Mohamed Maait stressed that the State was not and will not be late in fulfilling its internal and external obligations despite the harsh conditions and global crises.

The minister made the remarks as he reviewed the final accounts of the 2022/2023 budget at a session of the House of Representatives.

Maait said the final accounts of the 2022/2023 fiscal year reflect the State’s interest in expanding the social protection network; as actual spending on subsidies increased by 50.9 percent, including a 34-percent rise in actual spending on the social protection sector.

The volume of spending on wages grew 15 percent in the past fiscal year, hitting EGP 412.5 billion, the minister added.

Minister Maait noted that the government is committed to continuously improving wages with a view to reducing the burden on citizens as much as possible.
