Kenya’s Coffee Market Sees Rebound in Volumes, Prices


Coffee trade at Nairobi Coffee Exchange (NCE) bounces back with increased volumes and prices after market uncertainty.

Data reveals a surge from 3,773 to 20,199 bags offered for sale between August 15 and December 13, 2023.

Coffee bean sales also rose from 40% to 84% of bags offered.

AA grade saw a price drop to $240.10 from $249.95.

NCE attributes the rebound to restored confidence among market participants and improved global coffee prices, with the average buyers per auction rising to 18.

Identification of missing persons: 66 unidentified bodies were exhumed from Martouba cemetery in Derna.ENEMY’S RAID ON MLIKH VICINITY CAUSES DAMAGE TO HIGH-VOLTAGE LINE, POWER OUTAGE IN JEZZINE AREA

Yesterday, the teams of the Department of Search for the Remains of the General Authority for Search and Identification of Missing Persons exhumed 66 unidentified bodies from Martouba cemetery in Derna, and the total number of bodies exhumed from this cemetery reached 368.

The authority said on its website that the team took 41 samples from the exhumed bodies after a forensic examination process, bringing the total number of bodies from which samples were taken to 161 unidentified bodies.

The team also shrouded and reburied 40 unidentified bodies from the bodies that were exhumed, bringing the total number of bodies that were reburied in Derna Martyrs’ Cemetery (Al-Fataeh) to 120 unidentified bodies after fulfilling their legal aspects.

ABOUL GHEIT DISCUSSES WITH CHINESE FOREIGN MINISTER THE IMPLEMENTATION OF SECURITY COUNCIL RESOLUTIONS REGARDING THE SITUATION IN GAZA

The Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, on Sunday, discussed with China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, the dangerous and accelerating situation in the Gaza Strip, where they reached several agreements on the matter.

The joint statement issued by the Chinese Foreign Ministry and the General Secretariat of the Arab League regarding the Palestinian-Israeli conflict stressed ‘the necessity of an immediate and total ceasefire, the complete and effective implementation of the relevant resolutions issued by the United Nations Security Council and the United Nations General Assembly regarding the situation in Gaza, and the protection of civilians with concrete steps to stop all acts of violence targeting civilians, rejecting the forced displacement of Palestinian civilians, quickly establishing a humanitarian coordination mechanism, and delivering humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip according to a sustainable
, rapid, and safe mechanism without obstacles.’

The statement considered that the international community must move diligently and swiftly to calm the situation and bring about a ceasefire as soon as possible, noting that influential countries in particular must play a constructive role in this regard in an objective and fair manner.

The statement also considered that the UN Security Council must listen to the calls of the Arab and Islamic countries and other countries that have expressed their rejection of the ongoing Israeli war against the civilian population in Gaza, urging the UN Council to bear its responsibilities towards maintaining international peace and security in a serious manner and to take binding measures in this regard.

The joint statement stressed “the necessity of working seriously and effectively to find a comprehensive, just and lasting solution to the Palestinian issue while supporting Palestine to be a full member of the United Nations, and supporting the establishment of an independ
ent, fully sovereign State of Palestine based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with the relevant United Nations resolutions and the principle of ‘Land for Peace/’ as stated in the Arab Peace Initiative.’

The joint statement called as well for “convening an expanded international peace conference as soon as possible and in a manner that reflects international credibility to find a binding road map to implement the two-state solution according to a specific timetable, while pushing for the resumption of peace negotiations on this basis, in order to achieve peaceful coexistence between the states of Palestine and Israel, and security and peace for all peoples of the region.’

EGYPT AND CHINA DEMAND A CEASEFIRE IN GAZA, ESTABLISHMENT OF A PALESTINIAN STATE

The foreign ministers of China and Egypt in Cairo called for a ceasefire after 100 days of war in Gaza, and the establishment of a full Palestinian state with membership in the United Nations, according to “Russia Today”.

In a joint press conference at the beginning of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s African tour, Wang Yi and his Egyptian counterpart, Sameh Shoukry, called for the establishment of “an independent and sovereign Palestinian state along the lines of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.”

They also called in a joint statement for “an immediate and complete ceasefire and an end to all acts of violence, killing, and targeting of civilians and civilian facilities.”

INTENSIVE ENEMY OVERFLIGHTS IN WESTERN SECTOR, AIR RAID OVER YAROUN

National News Agency correspondent in Tyre reported that Israeli enemy warplanes were flying densely over the villages and towns of the western sector, all the way to the coast of the city of Tyre, coinciding with mock raids.

Enemy warplanes also carried out an air strike at approximately 4:55 this afternoon, on the town of Yaroun in the Bint Jbeil district with two air-to-surface missiles.

ENEMY TARGETS TWO HOUSES IN RAB-TLATEEN AND KFAR-KILA

National News Agency correspondent reported that Israeli enemy artillery targeted the house of citizen A. Hashem in the town of Rab-Tlateen with three shells. No casulaties were reported.

The enemy also targeted the town of Kfar-Kila with dozens of phosphorus shells, especially the house of A.S. in the town, without causing any casualties.

Enemy artillery bombarded the Ras al-Dhahr neighborhood, west of the town of Mays al-Jabal, with missiles, and enemy warplanes also raided the town.
