Washington: In a recent diplomatic outreach, U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin has called on Israeli authorities to take immediate action to alleviate the worsening humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, amid ongoing hostilities between Israel and Palestinian entities. According to Kuwait News Agency, Austin communicated his concerns during a phone conversation with Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant. He stressed the importance of Israel taking "all necessary steps" to mitigate the dire humanitarian conditions in Gaza, urging efforts towards facilitating prisoner releases and establishing a ceasefire. These appeals come as part of broader U.S. diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions and promote stability in the region. The conversation also addressed rising tensions in Lebanon, where Israeli military actions have sparked international concern. Austin expressed his apprehension regarding Israeli strikes on the Lebanese Armed Forces, underscoring the need for ensuring the safety and security of both the Lebanese military and the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).
